Happy day for dads and dead poets

In recognition of Father's Day, I'd just like to say that I hope all of the wonderful poppas, pups, dads and grandads out there had a great day! And to you kids and adults who have a great man in your life that you forgot to call, go call now. Please. You don't know how lucky you have it.

On that note, I'd like to bring attention to a potential cause for debate between some fathers and sons: Is Boston's Bukowski's Tavern (a.k.a. dead poets bar) a place you'd ever want to take a "foodie"? Or a female for that matter?

On point 1: It is a place to take a foodie if that foodie is a lover of all things food and beverage. I mean, they have Beamish! How often do you see Beamish at any bar in Boston? Or other fine beers priced at nearly $15/glass (Saison Dupont)? The beer menu is not as extensive as a Sunset Grill, but it's impressive.

As for the food, I'd probably skip the peanut butter burger and go straight for the $1.00 plain burger not on the menu. Yes, if you ask for just a plain burger, or a plain dog, you'll get it for a buck! It's an extra dollar and change for the fries. And the burger was actually juicy, fairly large... and good! Not just some patty puck. I'd go here for a burger and a beer any day of the week.

Which brings me to point 2: If the woman you want to take can hold her own at a dive bar -- specifically one on the ground level of a garage that hangs over the Mass Pike -- then you're all set. She won't have to dress up to enjoy herself here. Not to mention, it's so dark you can hardly see each other. Now, if she's a Vox, Saint or any-other-number-of-overpriced-drink/martini-bars junkie, then don't even think of walking her past Bukowski's. She'd be scared looking at the door.

Just my two cents.

Happy dining!
