Boston brunch in the North End: Don't miss Maurizio's

If you ever find yourself wandering Boston's North End wondering where a good omelet may be, you could be hard pressed, particularly if you're looking after 11 am on a Sunday. Though 11-3 are perfect brunching hours, you won't find many restaurant owners who are fans of brunch, which doesn't bode well when you're starving, craving eggs and about to lose it if you see one more person eating a meatball grinder at 11:30 am.

Until you walk up to
Maurizio's.

This quaint Italian restaurant is a bit farther up Hanover Street than some tourists may meander. If you happen across it on a beautiful Sunday morning, one of the owners may be outside to greet you and advertise the fact that they indeed serve brunch from 11-2:30, unlike every other neighboring restaurant. I was thrilled to find it and couldn't wait to start ordering.

I was even more excited to find mimosas and this on the menu:

UOVA CON PANCETTA
- Classic Italian omelet with sauteed pancetta, onions, peas, diced plum tomatoes and basil served over toasted wheat bread with roasted potatoes    8.50

Bingo. Whether you'd been out for a few drinks the night before or not, this meal will hit the spot. And it comes with a twist: The omelet has a soft-boiled egg hidden inside. If you enjoy sopping up some oozing yolk with your wheat bread, you'll love this dish.

To enjoy it all in such a charming restaurant, with its brick walls, cozy seating and white table cloths, made this one of the best brunches I've ever had in Boston.

In other words, get over there ASAP. And stop for a cannoli at Mike's on your way home!

Maurizio's is located at 364 Hanover Street in Boston's North End. To make reservations call (617) 367-1123. Validated parking is also available for $1/hour up to 3 hours at the Parcel 7 Garage next to Haymarket.
