The Paragon at Foxwoods Resort Casino: Chateaubriand with Foodie Kick
Since I don't often make it out to all corners of the globe, or even New England, I've encouraged and welcomed my foodie friends to submit reviews of their own favorite dining destinations. I am now thrilled to share with you the first entry in my guest series.
The Paragon at Foxwoods Resort Casino by Foodie Kick
The descriptors for The Paragon, located at the top of the Grand Pequot Tower at Foxwoods Resort Casino, are endless and too many to list. In my first visit there this past weekend with my girlfriend, Mellissa, we were treated to the most exquisite meal we have ever had.
We were seated in the corner of a candlelit dining room near the window, which during daylight hours would look over the Connecticut countryside. From the first course, we knew that this was going to be a meal we wouldn't soon forget. An amuse-bouche of grilled chicken, bacon and Italian-seasoned pureed tomatoes was a great way to whet our palates. We began with the Bomster Scallops that were lightly fried and served on top of a turnip puree with a delicious fresh crab salad, which was very light and complemented the dish perfectly.
For our entree, we chose the Chateaubriand with tableside service: A Wolf's Neck roasted beef tenderloin with a crispy Roquefort Potato Pave and warm, lightly seasoned, mashed Hubbard squash. The waitstaff flambeed the wild mushrooms and shallots in cognac tableside, and served each of us two filets -- one with demi reduction and the other with a Bearnaise sauce on the side. The tenderloin was cooked perfectly to the medium-rare we requested, and was delicious.
We were treated to light piano the entire evening, and a bottle of Robert Mondavi Cabernet from The Paragon's extensive but not overbearing wine list made the meal the best I have eaten in quite some time. Our waiter let us alone yet made us feel welcome, and we learned from him that the menu is turned over frequently to match the food and feel of the season.
For dessert, we were eyeing the trio of creme brulees, but the meal was very filling and we were left to enjoy the last of our bottle of wine with complementary Biscotti from our waiter.
With the menu changing frequently, I couldn't say what might be there at any one time, but other highlights are their signature Caesar sald, also served tableside, Kobe rib eye, veal and lamb chops, and potted rabbit.
If you win big at the craps table downstairs and you are looking for a one-of-a-kind dining experience, we would definitely recommend The Paragon.
Thank you to Foodie Kick and Awesome Mellissa for sharing your wonderful experience!
