On the Menu: The Beehive

Take a trip to a 1920s studio d'artistes de Paris at The Beehive. This new 300-person restaurant and bar is said to have been inspired by La Ruche, the French translation of the word "beehive" and also an old Parisian circular structure that may seem reminiscent of the Cyclomara building where the new endeavor is based. The Beehive happens to be right next door to the beloved French restaurant of the South End, Hamersley's Bistro.

It's currently in a soft-opening period -- a time used to practice on specially invited guests only -- but this Thursday, May 17, it will officially open for business. The hours will be nightly from 5:30pm to 2:00am, with weekend brunch available in the near future. Get in now rather than wait for the grand opening in the next month or so, even if just for a cocktail, glass of wine or to check out a burlesque show. (Really.)

The restaurant: The Beehive

The location: 541 Tremont Street, Boston Center for the Arts, South End (Map)

The cuisine: French bistro

The draw: Nightly jazz, cabaret and burlesque acts. I'll have to report back on the food.
